I’m Dr Mara Marques, a specialist in General and Family Medicine and a postgraduate in Aesthetic Medicine from the University of Alcalá (Madrid) and in Travel Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto. Since 2016 I’ve also dedicated myself to Diabetes and Obesity, and I’m one of the members of the coordinating committee of the Obesity Study Group (GEO).
I chose General and Family Medicine because it is the speciality that allows me to be closest to my patients and to accompany them at all stages of their lives in their biopsychosocial context. General and family medicine doesn’t just focus on treating the disease and working to prevent it, empowering patients to adopt better health-promoting habits is one of my main aims.
I believe that empathy is the key to a good doctor-patient relationship, a relationship that is essential in any speciality and even more important in those that I practise daily; general and family medicine and weight management consultations.
